Autumn wellness rituals
As Autumn begins to settle in, we get out our cozy clothes and embrace the chill in the air, the changing and falling of the leaves, and prepare ourselves for winter months to come. This changing of the seasons and shedding of the dead leaves, can be felt within us energetically as letting go of what no longer serves us, as we begin to turn our attention inward for hibernation months - a protection of the heart I like to say.
Most of us have already begun to try to get back into a routine with the changing of the summer months and the new school year. However, what are you doing for your personal wellness to embrace the present moment of this gorgeous Autumn? It’s important to nourish ourselves as we pour into our families, work, and friends. Daily wellness rituals and weekly activities centered around your mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing are a great way to do just that. Check out my favorite Autumn rituals, wellness routines and activities below!
autumn mandala art
This is a fun outdoor activity you can even get the kids in on and is a form meditation. Get outside and take a walk through the woods, on a trail or go on a hike. Play some music, or just be silent letting your thoughts come and go as you collect different types and colors of matching leaves, pinecones, and acorns. Create a big colorful mandala art piece to lay out in your yard or on the trail left for others to enjoy it’s beauty!
morning gratitude & tea
The power of gratitude is immense - that’s something I’ll dive deeper into in another post! However, a morning gratitude practice can change your mindset as well as change your life. To put an Autumn spin on it, try this every morning as soon as you get up!
Wake up, slip on some warm cozy layers
Make a cup of tea or coffee in your favorite mug
Grab a pen and your journal, I use The 5 Minute Journal
If you’re into it, grab your favorite Oracle deck, tarot deck or affirmation deck, and crystals
Go outside or near your favorite window to take in the scenery for the changing colors
Take a pause to enjoy it all. I even recommend using these moments for mediation if you have time for it
Get out your journal and write down three things that you’re grateful for, three things that would make today great, and set yourself a positive affirmation
If you choose to, do your card pulls and journal on them; hold your crystal and connect to it’s vibrational energy
Sit, pause, and reflect, taking in the beauty around you. Start your day and carry your positive affirmation with you (in your mind, or maybe you make it more powerful by writing it down on a small piece of paper and carrying it in your pocket).
move to release
Moving your body is the best way to clear out stagnant energy. As the trees begin to shed dead leaves, we too start to let go of anything no longer serving us. These can be limiting beliefs and negative thoughts and emotions. Mental loads (stress!) begin to resonate in our bodies and we can feel a heaviness. Moving may be hard at first, but always helps you feel better after because we want exercise endorphins and a dopamine boost!
Take a walk or hike and enjoy the foliage
Take an out door yoga class while the weather still permits, or take an online class and bring your computer outside
When it’s cold and rainy - find an autumn ambience video on You Tube, they have tons! Put it on your TV and do some light stretching in your living room, or take a virtual Yin Yoga class with me
rest to recover
Rest is just as important to nourish our bodies, minds and souls
Read a book - get into your comfy clothes, grab a cup of tea, play some autumn ambience
Attend a Sound Bath or Guided Sound Mediations, take a Restorative Yoga class
more mindful activities…
Put on some music and do some Autumn inspired baking or roasting. Check out my Fall Harvest Bake post (coming soon)!
Find an Autumn craft to do that you would enjoy - I’m digging the floral pumpkins and lanterns!
Create your own herbals teas
Indulge in Autumn aromas: diffuse some autumn inspired essential oils, light your favorite fall candle, simmer some mulling spices
Fall decor and gardening - plant some mums
Enjoy the little things
Family, friends and also moments of solitude. Take the time to soak up this beautiful season we have in New England, and put a little time back into YOU.
Big Love,
Shana Katherine
